The Grammys have come around yet again, for their 57th annual broadcast, which has ensured another show full of excitement and surprising drama.
The award show featured many performances by famous music artists such as Beyoncé, AC/DC, Madonna, Kanye West, Rhianna, and even Paul McCartney.
British artist Sam Smith, who has already begun making his claim to fame in America, became the star of the night upon finally receiving his first of many notable awards, winning four Grammys of the six he was nominated for—this included Best New Artist, Record and Song of the Year for his song “Stay with Me,” and Best Vocal Album for In the Lonely Hour.
"I want to thank the man who this record is about, who I fell in love with last year," said Smith. "Thank you so much for breaking my heart, because you got me four Grammys."
Few people were nominated as often as Smith was, and those who were included such famous music artists as Beyoncé and Pharrell Williams.
Although Beyoncé should have been ecstatic due to her great success that night, Kanye West’s returning attempt to storm the stage in her name has caused yet another dramatic fiasco.
After the drama of the VMAs in 2009, when Kanye took the mic from Taylor Swift during her acceptance speech for Best Female Video, viewers were shocked at his act of disrespect.
Yet again, West began to climb the stage during musician Beck’s acceptance speech after he won Album of the Year over Beyoncé.
However, West quickly bailed and returned to his seat, later stating in interviews that the entire situation was meant to be a satirical joke referencing his previous action during the VMAs.
Despite the drama that always presents itself in award shows like this, many serious events occurred such as the presentation of multiple Lifetime Achievement awards given to talented individuals such as George Harrison, Buddy Guy, Bee Gees, Pierre Boulez, and Flaco Jiménez.
83 Grammys awards were presented in total, making for a very successful night for many of the attending musicians.
Although this year’s Grammys have only just ended, many fans are looking forward to the events of next years show.
One Grammy fanatic states online, “[I’m] looking forward to new albums from Kanye, Frank Ocean, Kendrick Lamar, Adele, Drake, Nicki Minaj, Gwen Stefani, Kelly Clarkson, Corinne Bailey Rae, J Cole, and more. I'm also hoping for new releases from Florence + the Machine and Bon Iver. This should be a very exciting year!”
