For the past several years, Harrison’s wrestling program has been home to many of the state’s top wrestlers.
This year, Harrison has four senior wrestlers that are top ten in the state for their respective weight classes.
Seth Meyer ranks fifth, Connor Armuth is tenth, Daniel Wright is seventh, and Michael Kern ranks tenth.
Wright and Meyer are both returning state qualifiers from last season.
“Connor, Daniel, Seth, and Michael are the biggest leaders and they have been very hard workers for the past four years,” said Coach Van Der Aa. “Connor, Daniel, and Seth have all put in a lot of time at tournaments outside of the season.”
The primary goal of this year’s squad, headed by eleven seniors, is to win the state title as a team.
Van Der Aa said that the team has worked more this season on having individually focused practices in order for the wrestlers to get one-on-one time from coaches and focus on their specific needs. The Raiders dominated at the annual War on the Wabash tournament as the Varsity A team finished 10-0, while the Varsity B finished 5-4.
Individual champions were Connor Armuth, Daniel Wright, Donavan Puetz, and Michael Kern.
“I was really happy with our success overall as a team,” said senior heavyweight, Michael Kern.
“There were a lot of really talented teams there, but at the end of the day, we came out on top.”
