Katie Williams is a 2012 Harrison graduate and is currently a junior at Indiana University-Purdue University (IUPUI).
She has been running track at IUPUI since her freshman year and is most definitely a stand-out runner.
As a freshman, Williams was able to participate in all four indoor meets, before being limited to just three meets during outdoor season due to a foot injury.
During indoor season, she was the team’s top runner in the 800m with a time of 2:21.94 and 1,000m with a time of 3:13.97, setting new school records at each distance.
In the outdoor season, Williams opened with a 1:04.63 400m and 5:04.98 1,500m.
Not only was Williams’ freshman year outstanding, so was her sophomore year.
She performed in five indoor meets as well as five outdoor meets and was part of new school records in the 4x400 relay during indoor season and 4x800 relay during outdoor season.
Williams has loved every minute of track at IUPUI.
“It’s really an incredible opportunity. It was kind of a last minute decision for me to run in college, but now I couldn’t imagine my college experience without it. You have to be committed because you are crazy busy. I’m in nursing so there are days that I will get out of a twelve hour clinical at 8 at night and still have a workout to run and a weights workout to get done, but it is 100% worth it.”
Although Williams has suffered injuries, she has accomplished a lot and has won several different awards including Summit League Commissioner’s List of Academic Excellence, IUPUI Academic Advisor’s List, Summit League Academic League Academic Honor Roll Distinguished Scholar, and many more.
“My best meet is kinda a tricky one. Unfortunately, I have experienced several injuries in-season in the last couple of years, so I would say that my best meets are still to come at this point.”
Williams will begin her Junior indoor season starting this winter.
