Raider Wrestling Looks to Pin the Season

Raider Wrestling Looks to Pin the Season

John Strohl

Last season the Harrison Raider wrestling team won its third consecutive regional title and fourth consecutive sectional title.

The team won also won the NCC title its first year in the conference.

The Raiders look to have a another championship season.

Coach Scott Van Der Aa has a list of goals for the team to accomplish.

Van Der Aa said he wants the team to win 35 dual meets (the school record is 34), repeat as NCC champions, win sectional and regional, and send four individuals to the state finals.”

The Raiders have a very good chance to meet these goals, but they will have to stay healthy.

“Any injury could not only hurt an individual, but really hurt our team,” said Van Der Aa.

The team lost key contributors like Seth Meyer, Connor Armuth, Michael Kern, and more, due to graduation last year, but have some promising young guys this year.

“We have an amazing sophomore class,” said Van Der Aa.

Fifteen sophomores on the team have some varsity experience.

The young guns will need to produce for Harrison to have a successful season.

Myles Krintz, a sophomore, transferred to Harrison from Culver this year. He advanced to semi-state last season as a freshman and will likely give the team a big boost this year.

The team not only has a lot of good young wrestlers but also have a very good group of seniors.

“We have a very solid group of seniors that have experienced a lot of individual and team success over their careers,” said Van Der Aa.

“The hard work that the wrestlers have always been willing to put in is what will again make our team successful.”

Key Contributors: Elias Laborin, senior; Isaac Mathis, senior; Kirklan Conley, senior; Myles Krintz, sophomore; Dennis Ingle, senior; Sidney Shoop, sophomore; Jesús Correa, senior; Trey McCartney, sophomore; Jacob Wade, senior.
